Tami Phillippi: Hello, I’m Tami Phillippi and I’m the owner of Frame Minnesota here in Eagan. We do lots of different kinds of framing, everything from simple photos to fine art, but today we’re here to talk about framing military items. My dad was a vet.
My dad served in Korea and I suppose, oh gosh, 15, 20 years ago, we finally framed up all of his stuff and it brought out some great stories. It was a great gift.
I do way too many military memorabilia boxes for folks that have passed away. I just think it would be really a nice gift for an older person that you don’t know what to buy for, but has kept that thing around for 40, 50, 60 years. We frame a lot of different types of military items.
We frame photographs, we frame metals, we frame insignia, we frame uniforms, we frame flags, certificates. We’ve done some rifles, pretty much anything you can think of.
I think one of the things that sets us apart is the fact that we take the time and we really talk to people about what they want and try to make their vision come true.
We offer conservation framing. It’s all about the types of adhesives do you use, a lot of times the lack of adhesives, a lot of times we use stitching and sewing techniques that makes things removable. It also causes them to last a lot longer and not deteriorate.
When a military veteran passes away, the family is given a large American flag that’s meant to cover the casket, and these are often framed in a triangular frame. We carry a line here in the store that’s made in America. They’re all American hardwoods.
Customers are looking for a place to store that and display it in their house, and that oftentimes leads to other conversations about framing metals and other memorabilia that they might have.
