Hinged frame for a Pocket Watch

June 23, 2012

Our client challenged us to devise a way to display an heirloom pocket watch handed down to her husband from his father who received it from his father. She wanted the frame to open so that he could carry the watch when desired.  We chose a textured suede mat to set off the watch and three small pictures and a simple but masculine beaded mahogany frame for the face of the project. We used tiny 10mm barrel hinges and a rare earth magnet to do the opening and closing. The watch rests on a specially created arm that holds the watch in place while allowing it to be removed easily. (Disclaimer: The watch in the picture is quite a bit larger than the real deal which was both valuable and irreplaceable and stayed in the customers possession while we worked on this one)
